SYNOPSIS

Produced in honour of Black History Month UK 2024, Unveiling Innocence tells the powerful, reimagined story of Mahmood Hussein Mattan — a Somali seaman wrongfully convicted and executed in 1952 Cardiff. The film asks a poignant question: what if Mahmood had survived?

Through this lens, the story revisits key moments in the UK's ongoing fight for racial equality — from the Bristol Bus Boycott (1963) and the Notting Hill riots (1958) to the Brixton uprising (1981), the Stephen Lawrence case (1993), and the Black Lives Matter protests (2020).

By connecting past and present, Unveiling Innocence highlights both the progress made and the injustices that persist, inviting audiences to reflect on resilience, justice, and the role each generation plays in shaping a fairer society.
